Melt-In-Your Mouth Rolls

Thanks to my younger sister I have the best recipe for rolls that I have ever tasted!  They are truly delicious!

There used to be a restaurant near Nashville called Texana.  It was similar to the Roadhouse we have here in Ohio.  Thanks to her sweet talking she was given the restaurant’s recipe!  She is definitely a sweet talker too!  She can talk just about anybody into anything!  Quite a nifty talent to have…to bad I didn’t get any of it!

I thought on this cold and blustery day warm rolls and hot soup sound like the perfect meal!  Here’s the roll recipe!

Texana Rolls
2 cups Warm Milk
1/2 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Warm Water
2 1/4 teaspoons Yeast (or 1 pkg)
Combine and let sit 10 minutes or until mixture begins to foam.
1/2 cups Crisco Shortening
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
6 cups Flour
Mix well until dough starts to pull away from sides of bowl.  Transfer to a well floured counter top.  Knead 4 minutes.  More flour may be necessary -you want a nice soft dough that’s just a little sticky!
After kneading place dough round in a greased bowl cover loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 6 hours.  Overnight, is perfect!
Remove from refrigerator and punch down dough.  Allow to rest 10 minutes.  Form into rolls and place on greased- parchment lined baking sheets or cake pans.  Let rolls rise in a warm place for 2 hours.
Bake at 325 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.  Enjoy!

  1. Thanks for sharing this recipe! My husband and I live in Nashville and we would often eat at Texana Grill primarily for the rolls! One quick question: do you not add any eggs to the dough? Just wanted to make sure…

    • Thank you for your comment! Nope no eggs are needed in the recipe. Hope you enjoy them!
